MAKING IT ACCESSIBLE FOR THE PEOPLE
The waterfront in Bergen has today many barriers. We want to break those barriers and give the city new access to the water. An open waterfront will offer new activities and be more inviting for the citizens and visitors. Creating a clear transition from the urban centre to the fjord will unfold a richer city. Peoples quality of life will be enhanced when the city centre and the sea is reconnected.
Bontelabo and Skolten with their proximity to the city centre and Sandviken can be a starting point for revealing the waterasa quality for people in Bergen. By reconnecting the waterfront with the Bergenhus fortress, the residential Skuteviken and the commercial Bryggen will the city be sewed tighter together. As a former closed and isolated part of the city will access to the water give a other type of urban and public space that exist in Bergen today. Opening Skolten as a gateway to Vågen will give the waterfront a landmark that can attract people from Bergen and beyond.
